Deep Dive Discussion
Discussion 2C. Albinism Depicted by Amerigo Vespucci and Christopher Columbus
Description
This deep dive discussion will focus on a study analyzing the concepts of albinism in Amerigo Vespucci's and Christopher Columbus' letters centuries ago from ecolinguistic perspectives as developed by Arran Stibbe (2021). The discussion aims to show a) the discrimination of albinos by natives, b) the discrimination of albinos by their own native societies, and c) the glorification of albinos for environmental causes. Theoretically, some metaphorical ecolinguistic frames will be formulated for the analyzed letters, and finally, albinos' role in nature protection will be discussed.
