Call for Discussion Facilitators - Closed
- The Ronald E. Hall Conference on Colorism Committee is opening a Call for Discussion Facilitators. We are interested in receiving applications from colorism subject matter experts to facilitate deep dive discussions on the colorism topics noted in the table below. The most intriguing conference sessions will be the “deep dive” discussion sessions where participants will hold lively, respectful and engaging discussions about specific colorism topics. Sessions will last approximately 90 minutes. Open discussion session topics, dates and times are noted below.
- Facilitator Responsibilities
- • Ensure that all participant voices are heard, discussions are respectful, engaging, and offer the opportunity
- for shared perspectives.
- • Remain neutral, be profssional, confident and knowledgeable about the colorism deep dive topics.
- • Develop a discussion outline and include thought-provoking and open-ended questions.
- • Guide discussion sessions.
- • Encourage all attendees to participate.
- • Keep discussions moving forward in a meaningful manner.
- • Ensure a safe discussion environment.
- • Ensure time is managed carefully, with plenty of time for discussion.
- • Participate in two pre-conference Discussion Facilitator conference calls.
- • Write and submit a summary of the discussion sessions, noting key discussion points.
- We encourage applications from graduate students, faculty, and other professionals. Upon receipt of applications, we will contact applicants to schedule a short interview.
- Proposed Deep Dive Discussion Topics
- Deep dive discussions will consist of thought-provoking discussions about the psychological, emotional, physical, and social impact of colorism relative but not limited to the following topics:

- • Is it really colorism?
- • Defining colorism
- • The Bleaching Syndrome
- • The Color Complex
- • Skin color complexes
- • Bollywood and Hollywood
- • Biases and Stereotypes
- • Psychological, emotional, physical, and social trauma
- • Colorism and self-worth
- • Social media
- • Reality television and colorism
- • Colorism curriculum
- • The impact of colorism on men/women possessing light skin tones.
- • The role skin tone (light, medium and dark) plays in colorism experiences.
- • Inclusion of colorism in DEI literature, discussions, training, and programs.
- • Psychological, emotional, physical, and social issues impacting perpetrators of colorism.
- • The impact of global beauty standards and colorism.
- • Colorism and albinism
