Ms. Gina Sissoko
BIO
Gina (Diagou) Sissoko is a doctoral candidate in the clinical and forensic psychology program at John Jay College/CUNY Graduate Center. Gina’s research focuses on the impact of colorism, gendered racism, and trauma on Black women and girls’ mental health and criminal legal involvement. Her dissertation examined the manifestation and impact of colorism on Black adolescent girls through a critical participatory action research framework. She is currently a predoctoral psychology intern at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Medicine. Gina is an NSF Graduate Research Fellow and a NASEM Ford Foundation Pre-doctoral Fellow. She is the founder of the BlackGIRL Project, a research collective aimed at solving social problems impacting Black women and girls.
